About Us
History
Florida Women of Achievement was founded in 1992 by photographic artist Scherley Busch with 12 original portraits. What Ms. Busch thought would be a one time documentary exhibit celebrating Women’s History Month turned into an amazing mission of archiving women’s achievements. In the past 2 decades nearly 100 portraits of Florida’s trailblazers and historic leaders have been photographed.
A volunteer advisory committee helps identify exceptional women based on their outstanding accomplishments which include business, politics, medicine, sports, the arts, education, and science. Women from around the state, who have been recognized, reflect Florida’s diverse cultural and ethnic community.
New honorees are inducted each year. Their portraits are debuted at an exhibition reception during National Women’s History Month. Each environmental portrait is uniquely designed by the artist to reflect the honoree’s accomplishments. Biographical highlights about each honoree’s outstanding achievements and the significance of the photographic location are documented.
